The Veterans Empowerment Organization of Georgia, Inc. (VEO) was started in July of 2008 by Frantz Fortune, Executive Director, and other leaders who are committed to the fight against Homelessness in the City of Atlanta. From very humble beginnings, VEO was established with the help of Frantz’s personal friends, co-workers and family. Today, VEO wants to expand that circle of friends in order to get support and structure from people in all walks of life, especially those who understand the many problems and challenges that veterans must deal with after they return from war zones. Many have joined the cause simply because they don’t believe our heroes should simply be left on the street without food, shelter, or other assistance. VEO expects to raise funds through special events, fundraising drives, and the charity of individual contributors. VEO is looking for “Celebrity Friends” (including public figures, sports heroes and entertainment personalities) who can lend their names, time, and talents to help fund our mission. VEO is recruiting volunteer celebrities in Atlanta as “Events Captains” to host special events within the city. These will demonstrate compassion and support the organization's mission by hosting fundraising efforts in the City of Atlanta. These include grassroots gatherings and functions such as dinner events, concerts, and formal galas -- each as unique as the individuals who conduct them. Here at VEO, we realize that much hard work goes into coordinating such events; and we truly appreciate the effort and dedication that individuals, groups and families demonstrate in supporting our cause. We see VEO as “One Big Family” whose desire is to help our “homeless” veterans, and we know you will, too. Plainly and simply, we feel we have to respond to a condition that affects such a large number of veterans in this country. Correspondingly, we envision a secure place where our homeless veterans can be fed, clothed, and sheltered from the elements. We are humbled by the many generous friends who have offered their time and energy, as well as introduced us to their own friends, in order to sustain and enlarge the VEO Family. The idea for VEO’s Team Captain came when Frantz was shocked to see the large number of veterans who were homeless. From that realization came his passionate desire to develop a strategy that would raise funds to find solutions for veterans in need. The passion and spirit of VEO’s message is carried from his friends and colleagues to those in urgent need of assistance. Today, the circle of “Friends of VEO” continues to grow. We want to capture a spirit of compassion so that together we can rise to the challenge and thereby make a real difference in the fight to end homelessness among veterans. We are asking friends everywhere, nationally and locally, to help raise funds to assist us in our task of meeting the needs of veterans. To this end, various organizations and volunteers will represent VEO in communities across the country. Even just one person acting alone can make a difference in the fight against homelessness among veterans. But by joining together, people can far more effectively create opportunities and implement ideas – ways and means -- to raise the necessary funds. Veterans become homeless for many reasons—the bad economy, unemployment, absence of family and social support, the long-term consequences of trauma and other war wounds, alcoholism and other addictions, little or no money, insufficient affordable housing, and above all lack of the kind of supportive social services that are necessary to help them recover from their condition and become re-integrated into society. They have made painful sacrifices in defense of our freedoms and way of life; we believe it is right and proper, even a moral duty, to continue to honor them for their service. They were there for us when we needed them to defend our freedom and our Country, and it is now time for all of us here at home to be there for them. If you share our passion and are interested in becoming a CELEBRITY TEAM CAPTAIN working with other volunteers in your area to form a “Friends of VEO” volunteer group in your community, contact The VEO at 404 451-5117 or E-mail us at  info@veteransempowerment.org

Those who choose to be part of this effort will be saluted and recognized for their work, and their pictures will be placed on our website’s photo gallery as distinguished fighters against homelessness among veterans.
